Our pal Pat Green showed up in his dad uniform to talk family, Fort Worth and, of course, music.
We dive right into Pat’s many years in the music business — his creative process, how his music has evolved through the years, navigating the industry as an artist and businessman, what it’s like being on the road, his biggest influences and mentors, favorite (and least favorite) songs, best venues to play live, advice that has stuck with him, how he finds inspiration and why he loves the songwriting process.

“My imagination is my best friend. If nothing’s going on, I’ll just make it up. I can conjure a new truth, a new path, a new reality in a heartbeat. And I love that. I love it. And I love vocabulary. I love the way that words work together, you know, as you stumble and tumble as things go along — if you just think about things like that, you can tell a story, tell a better story.”
“At first I find the music … I just start playing. I play my guitar and I tumble around in different progressions and different tempos, sometimes different instruments. … At that point, it’s really about jumping off the cliff. Once you find the music, you just jump off — and can’t wait to see how you screw it up.”
In addition to talking music and Lizzy’s chances of being the next Taylor Swift, he answers all our burning questions about his home life (although he refuses to pick a favorite college football team as a Tech grad and UT dad). He shares favorite spots in Fort Worth and talks all about wife Kori, who was one of our very first guests on the show! (WATCH HER EPISODE HERE)
Pat eventually forgives us for asking Kori to be on the show first and even plays a quick round of “Who’s More Likely To.”
